Summer holidays; planning, prepping and packing. It can be stressful when you’re organizing your annual break and hectic lifestyles can often mean that you can forget to pack essential holiday items.
To make your break as relaxing as possible, we’ve created a quick check list of your travel bag essentials:
If you are going somewhere hot, sun protection should be the first thing you pack. We understand that there is nothing better than lying on the beach relaxing whilst topping up your tan however being exposed to the sun for a long period of time can damage your skin and health, it can cause severe sunburns and even cause skin cancer, so it is always important to keep protected.
When buying sun protection look for the higher SPF (Sun Protection Factor) at least SPF 15, but higher for children and those with sensitive skin as it provides best protection from the sun’s UVB rays. You should also look for a product that has high UVA protection; this is normally shown by a star rating, 5 stars being the best.

It is important to keep the skin moisturised by applying after sun at the end of the day. It can also help alleviate the burning sensation from, but it is best to avoid that all together.

Mosquitos are especially predominant in hot countries, they are attracted to the human’s body and heat and we all know how annoying it is when they bite and buzz near us.
When looking for a strong insect repellent look for the amount of DEET. DEET is a chemical which is present in most repellents and it makes it hard for insects to smell humans which avoid bites. The more DEET the stronger the repellent is.
If the country you are going to has cases of malaria and other diseases caused by mosquitos/insect bites it is important to visit your local GP beforehand. They will provide you with vaccinations if necessary, although repellents will help prevent bites it will not completely protect you.
Toothpase and Toothbrush
This may seem like an obvious one, but people tend to forget the most obvious one when packing in a hurry.
You can purchase travel sized toothpaste and toothbrush if you have limited space. Hotels don’t always offer them and its best to be prepared. If space is not limited you can take the ones you already have at home and save yourself from buying more for you and the family whilst on holiday.
Deodorant and Body Wash
When travelling you are never sure what toiletries your accommodation will provide, so it is important to take your own. When it comes to body wash we would highly recommend a bar of soap, they are easy to pack and handle, it will not intervene with your liquids limit and it will last longer than liquid shower gels.
Deodorant is a must if you are in a hot country. Choose your favourite and pack it, we recommend you base your choice on how long you are planning to stay away as some types of deodorant last longer, for example roll on tends to last longer than spray deodorants, but try to get ones in plastic packages not glass as they are lighter and much safer for a bumpy journey.
Hair products are always important to carry with you whilst on holiday as you never know what will be available to you at your destination. You can buy small travelling products but if you want to save some money you can buy empty travel packs and fill them up with your own shampoo and conditioner and they can be reused every time you travel!
Dry shampoo can be a life saver depending on your destination, you won’t have to carry a lot of liquids and it helps you out if you are unable to wash your hair, it just gives you a fresher look and most now have a very nice scent which adds to the fresher feeling.
