Studies have shown that half of us may not be taking our prescribed medicines correctly and could be putting our own health at risk without even realising it
A Medicines Check Up is a FREE service for those in England and Wales which involves a face-to-face, private conversation with our pharmacist about the medicines that you’re taking. The aim of the review is to give you a better understanding of your medicines and to help you manage them in the best way to treat or control your condition.
By the end of your Medicines Check Up you should:
- Know more about your medicines and what they do
- Understand the best way to take your medicines
- Understand how your medicines are now working to benefit your health
Why should you speak to your pharmacist about the medicines you are taking?
From talking with our pharmacists, we know they often see people who are having trouble managing their medicines. 58% of people said they could have a better understanding of how and when to take their medicines.
People are often unaware that certain medications may cause side effects; not only can some medicines not be suitable, but there is also a chance that they interact with other medicines that the individual is taking and therefore they may no longer see the benefits.
Unfortunately, 44% of people taking medicines experience avoidable side effects. A Medicines Check Up can identify ways to avoid this. Even if you have not experienced any unusual symptoms, it is important that you discuss new medicines with your pharmacists to ensure that you’re getting the best out of your treatment.
